Single Family
Single family housing is at the core of the all program activity at
Tierra del Sol. The cornerstone of the new family housing construction is the
mutual self help method of housing construction. This priority is established
through the recognition of the ever growing demand for housing for southern
New Mexico farm workers and other persons of low and moderate incomes.
Tierra del Sol has coupled modern modest house designs with the
American frontier tradition of "barn raising" and the "do it yourself" spirit
to make the American Dream possible for hundreds of families in New Mexico.
The success of the self help method of housing construction celebrates the
process that fosters the development of low income persons as self-sufficient
agents of change who through homeownership improve their social and economic
status in the community.
Since 1973, Tierra del Sol has assisted
hundreds of families to build homes in Dona Ana County communities of San
Miguel, Dona Ana, Mesquite, Vado, Mesilla and Anthony. When it started its
housing programs, housing was developed in mostly rural areas. As the demand
for attractive affordable housing increases, Tierra del Sol has expanded its
housing programs in urban neighborhoods in the City of Las Cruces and the
City of El Paso.
